Travel on the 505 bus from Ambleside to alight at Hawkshead and walk the six miles back via Blelham Tarn, Wray Castle and Clappersgate. In the summer months a launch plies between Waterhead, Brockhole and Wray landing stages, giving an alternative means of completing the walk.

Drumburgh CastleContinue reading “Burgh-by-Sands and Drumburgh Castle”

En route, short of Creetown, my wife and I called in at the two Neolithic chambered cairns called Cairn Holy I and II. The setting is gorgeous, but more impressive areContinue reading “Cairn Holy in Galloway”
