This is the upper crossing of Scandale Beck above Ambleside, exquisite in its simplicity, a peaceful haven for dippers and pond life. The single-span bridhe crossed by Galloway cattle, Herdwick sheep and profusion of appreciative walkers every year. Scandale, which means ‘short valley’, has an outgang lane which ushers walkers over an elevated pass into the Hartsop valley above Ullswater.
