Townend, Troutbeck

This C17th farmhouse has been in the care of the National Trust for exactly 75 years. It had previously been the farming home of the ambitious Browne family for 12 generations. A genuinely fascinating story, not only in terms of the vernacular building, with a fine bank-barn across the way, but in terms of the internal fitments and furniture. The whole, including the collection of books, represent a four hundred year rural time travel experience unparalleled in Cumbria.

The custodian, Emma Wright, enthusiastically described the property and this amazing story in a conversation with me in our http://www.countrystride.co.uk podcast episode #97.
